The process of teeth whitening refers to the restoration of the color of teeth by removing debris and other dirt that can accumulate over time. Unlike bleaching, the pen does not whiten the teeth beyond their natural color.
There are two main types of staining that occurs on teeth. The first is referred to as extrinsic staining while the second is what is known as intrinsic. In both cases, the teeth appear visibly duller and can have a color that ranges from yellowish to brownish.
Modern dentistry has allowed for the development of teeth whitening pens which are whitening agents contained in a small applicator tube. These can be purchased over-the-counter or used with the supervision of the dentist. The differences lie mainly in the degrees of concentration of the ingredients.
